Tolentino palalakasin ang Philippines cycling
MANILA, Philippines — Ikinakasa na ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino ang programa upang muling buhayin ang track cycling sa ginanap na International Cycling Union (UCI) 193rd Congress sa Zurich, Switzerland.
Isang brand-new UCI-standard indoor 250-meter velodrome ang kasalukuyang ginagawa sa Tagaytay City na inaasahang makukumpleto sa ikalawang bahagi ng 2025.
Kaya naman nakikipag-ugnayan na ang POC sa UCI at kay cycling international federation president David Lappartient.
“The UCI provides support to all its member nations and I’m glad that with the velodrome in Tagaytay City, the Philippines could kickstart its return to active track cycling,” ani Tolentino na siya ring presidente ng PhilCycling.
Sinabi ni Tolentino na manggagaling ang suporta mula sa UCI Solidarity and Emerging Countries Commission and Program.
Malalim ang pakikipag-ugnayan ni Tolentino sa UCI at sa Southeast Asia kabilang na si Indonesian cycling chief Raja Sapta Oktohari.
Target ni Lappartient na makuha ang pagiging pangulo ng International Olympic Committee kapalit ni incumbent president Thomas Bach, nakatakdang magretiro.
“The opportunities to continuously link PhilCycling not only with the UCI but with the rest of the world were present on the congress floor,” ani Tolentino.
Hindi na bago si Lappartient sa Pilipinas.
Naging international commissaire na ito para sa road and track noong 1995 Asian cycling championships sa Amoranto Velodrome at Subic.
