Ever grateful to all participants for our three Ecofairs together!
Despite the very short period we had for our ECOFAIR#1, our Cebu CSOs and partners gratefully heeded Pagtambayayong and our RCE-Cebu invitation to celebrate World Environment 2025 together at Cebu City’s Plaza Independencia!
Ecofair #1-June 2025 was our debut as a coalition to honor all our eco-protectors, advocates and partners across various ecosystems throughout Cebu and to share with the public about the advocacy and the products of our eco-protectors/partners.
It was also our first global link with the World Environment Day (WED) organizers – Cebu was part of the global groups included in the global map of WED participants!
That first Ecofair was also our formal link as a coalition of eco-advocates/partners with and our formal welcome for Cebu City elected environmentalist Mayor Nestor Archival who was guided to meet, be informed about the various protectors of people, communities and various ecosystems throughout the province.
It was an inspiring occasion for all Ecofair participants to see the beauty, power of unity for the same eco-advocacies and goals.
Ecofair#2-June 2026, through the invitation of RCE-Cebu and Kaabag sa Sugbo, gathered again many of the Ecofair#1 participants, together with new advocates/partners, Governor Pam, at the Cebu Province grounds to join the local/global community celebrate World Environment Day.
Both Ecofair#1 and #2 again introduced/honored our eco-protectors/partners across our various ecosystems – from ridge to reef- from the mountains/forest/mining communities, to agriculture/farming communities, to urban, and fishing/marine/coastal locations.
CSOs, interfaith groups, universities, local government units and agencies, among others, united as partners to celebrate our eco-advocates/partners, appreciate their display of their advocacies/initiatives, products, including the issues/challenges they face to protect our people, communities and the planet.
Like these two past Ecofairs, our CSOs and partners again shared generously their time/presence/participation to continue to honor our eco-protectors/partners, their advocacies and to inform/encourage the public to support/sustain the protection of people/communities/our planet, however they can, wherever they are.
Ecofair#3, again organized by Pagtambayayong and RCE-Cebu, to join the Cebu Archdiocese/CACEC’s celebration of the 2026 Season of Creation at Fuente-Osme?a brought together many participants for yet another Ecofair reunion for the same goals to publicly celebrate/introduce Cebu’s eco-protectors/partners and their advocacies.
Among this Ecofair#3 participants, one beautiful learning observed was the unscheduled, spontaneous dialogue among the urban poor group of All-UP Cebu, Pagtambayayong and the DSWD about these important concerns: 1) about the AICS PROGRAM for individual members with medical, burial, educational, transportation o emergency financial needs, and, 2) the DSWD WALANG GUTOM assistance for poor/food-insecure families.
Several participating groups also had timely reminders and cost-friendly alternatives to respond to the forecasted El Ni?o droughts (Zonta’s rain harvester), to better manage smelly kitchen/food wastes (Bgy Luz’s no-smell, effective 2-layer double composter), collect used plastic bottles (Ngohiong Express’ plastic trash bins), among others.
Another unforgettable learning shared during this Ecofair#3 was realizing the deep commitment of our farmers who came down as one family/one community from far-flung mountain Bgy. Mabini (beyond Binaliw/Pit-os) and Bgy. Pamutan (high up in Guadalupe) with their heavy baskets filled with their delicious fruits/vegetables/ coconuts/other products. Their decorative plants/other saplings as well brought color/ beauty to the whole Ecofair#3.
