EDITORIAL — Speed up the case

The filing of charges by the National Bureau of Investigation against those linked to anomalous flood control projects in Cebu’s third district is a crucial step toward accountability.

Allegations of irregularities in infrastructure projects strike at the heart of public trust, especially when these projects are meant to protect lives and property from flooding. Justice delayed is justice denied.

The case must move with urgency so the truth can be established and those responsible held to account. Prolonged proceedings only deepen public doubt and allow corruption to fester unchecked.

Flood control projects are not mere contracts. They are lifelines for communities that are vulnerable to rising waters. Any misuse of funds or manipulation of processes undermines safety and development.

The courts and investigative agencies must ensure transparency and speed in handling this case. The public deserves clarity, and the communities affected deserve justice. Accountability must be swift, decisive, and uncompromising. Only then can confidence in governance be restored, and only then can Cebuano people be assured that public funds truly serve the public good.
