The easiest thing to do is to criticize

There are two kinds of people in this world, the ones who construct concrete things and those who destroy them, the ones who make things happen, and those who seek to undermine all the achievements, those who build edifices and those whose only objective is to shatter all that have been built.

Criticism is of two kinds. The constructive criticism is one whose purpose is to help the man at the helm. A wake up call, a friendly reminder, a call to reform and improvement. When one criticizes in good faith, with the intention to help, the criticism should be  focused on the action, on the deed and not on the honor and self-respect of the person. Positive criticism is addressed at the actuation and not against the self-esteem of the person doing  them. Thus, criticism should not be given undue publicity without first hearing the person being criticized. And even if the person criticized has already said his piece, he should not be shamed publicly.

Negative criticism is one whose only intent is to malign, to libel and to besmirch the reputation of the man at the helm. This is usually the case of politically-motivated criticisms, those that are designed really to demolish the honor and integrity of the man in charge.

It was Dale Carnegie who wrote: " Any fool can criticize, condemn but it takes character and self-control to be understanding and forgiving." The great Norman Vincent Peale also wrote: " When we judge or criticize another person, it merely says something about our own need to be critical." The famous US president, Theodore Roosevelt once said: " It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly, who errs and comes short again and again because there is no effort without error and shortcomings x x x".

Today, the LPs, and other critics join the leftist and the rebels, the purveyors of troubles and treason are attacking like mad dogs, while the president strives hard to make the Philippines a safer and more secure nation, even as he is ceaselessly being maligned, defamed, libeled and cursed. He stakes his life, his honor and even the presidency to pursue his goals, even if he continues to be wounded and scarred in press and broadcast media, in the hands of those who seek only to destroy what the leader is trying very hard to build. Put the critic in charge and he will know how hard it is to be at the helm. That is what they did to Leni Robredo. Let us see if she can match her words with performance.
