Friendship Day

Sunday, August 10/14, was International Friendship Day. But no one seemed to remember. And no one seemed to care. Everyone was busy "warring" -- bombing here, bombing there.

* * *

In the Phl no one knew it was Friendship Day. Everyone was busy thinking and planning what to do with PNoy. Whether to cut short his term that ends 2016 or to extend it and how.

Have you observed that the "handshake," the symbol of friendship since time immemorial is slowly fading away? It is being replaced with the 'fist shake" or the "fist bump" the cold way of greeting each other or after being introduced to one another.

Mommy D, (who doesn't know Mommy D?) is in the news again. Mainly tabloid news. No, not about her son Manny's upcoming fight but about her lovelife. She's linked to a young suitor said to be bagets.

* * *

Mommy D's fans say OK lang. For in love everything is fair and square. But some suspicious souls are asking: 'What's the young man's angle?"

* * *

Manny Pacman has never been known to disagree with Mommy D's decisions let alone berate her for what she does. But tabloid reports have it that he, for once, gave her two thumbs down.

A group of tree lovers in Labangon called up to express their approval of the stoppage of the tree-cutting in Naga City. John Antepuesto Jr. speaking for the group of four said DENR Secretary Ramon Paje's recall of the tree-cutting permits issued by his office was most welcome "although the recall order came after much damage has already been done."

* * *

Mr. Antepuesto made it clear that his group was not a member of the Movement for Livable Cebu which protested strongly against the tree cutting "although we supported the Movement all along."

* * *

He said pruning the trees could have been enough to make them safe. He also said that in Los Angeles (where he had lived for some years) there are many big old trees along the main roads but not one had been felled, only pruned. "They love trees over there," he said.

OVERHEARD. I overheard some men talking about the BRT again. They talked about it in mocking fashion. Said one: "Nanghambug ra ba si PNoy sa iyang SONA  nga duna nay BRT sa Cebu. Hai man?" Said another man: "Basin inig president pa ni Binay moabot sa Cebu ang BRT." Said a third man: "Taka lang ka oi. Pun-an pa gani'g laing unom ka tuig si PNoy."
