Oldest profession

It says here that the BIR's income tax drive targets 1.5 million professionals. Does it include the practitioners of the world's oldest profession?

A bill has been filed in the Lower House that seeks to criminalize same sex marriage. But, guys, isn't this “criminal act” a boon to our effort to control population growth?

Flash back: Gilas Pilipinas was expected by all basketball experts to breeze past Hong Kong, winless in our grouping. But HK nearly beat us. “Before the game,” someone was heard saying, “we were as proud as a pig with two tails.”

The old saying that goes: “Don't count the chicks before they are hatched” still holds true, especially in sports where the result of any game is an unpredictable as the weather.

Friends often tell me to always cheer up despite the condition of my health like news fotog Loy Jurado. “Look at Loy,” they say. “He never seems to get old. He always cracks jokes. He's an old man trapped in a young man's body.”

Loy J. is always a cheerful man. He never wears a long face, so to speak, except when something goes wrong with operations at the post office which delay the arrival of his US pension check.

Once Loy's pension check was delayed. He went to the post office to find out what caused the delay. The check had arrived long ago but could not be delivered because it was buried under other incoming mails. It was an important letter from the US pension office with questions for him to answer. Failure to reply in time would have cancelled his monthly pension.

Loy says “gamay rang pensiona.... igo ra palit sardinas para subak miswa.” Hehe. For the info of the tax collectors. Hehe.

OBSERVATION: Manila Mayor Erap Estrada wears fatigues while confronting hard-headed bus drivers. But it looks like Vice Mayor Isko Moreno is calling the shots. My perception could be wrong though.

OVERHEARD. Some businessmen were heard talking about basketball, particularly the FIBA Asia games. One of them said: “Hambug kaayo ang Gilas gibali-wala nila ang Hong Kong.” Reply: “Bitaw. Hapit noon pildiha sa Hong Kong.” Reply: “Kun wa pa ko mag-ampo adtong gabhiuna sa Ginoo nga padag-on ang Gilas, pildi gyud unta ta.” There was laughter.
