CEBU, Philippines – A 68-year-old man died after jumping off a moving bus Monday at the Cebu South Coastal Road in the South Road Properties near Barangay San Isidro, Talisay City.
The victim was identified as Cesar Andales, married, a resident of Zone 4, Isla Verde of the same barangay. The driver of Sunrays bus, Vergilio Agollo, 57, was detained following the incident.
Senior Police Officer 1 Junard Jose Chiong of the Talisay City Traffic Division said the victim rode the bus from a mall in SRP.
Upon reaching the place, the victim approached and told the driver to pull it off, but while the bus was still moving, he reportedly jumped off. The victim landed on the concrete pavement head first.
The driver reportedly told the police that he warned Andales against stepping down as the bus was still moving.
Andales was rushed to Talisay City District Hospital and later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. Hours after, he succumbed to head injuries.
Meanwhile, Agollo voluntarily surrendered himself to the authorities.
Chiong denied reports that the victim was drunk during the incident. He said the relatives of the victim and the bus company’s representatives were set to meet to discuss a possible settlement. (FREEMAN)
