CEBU, Philippines - A 19-year-old man was found floating dead in the waters of Sitio Kasamahan, Barangay Poblacion in Lapu-Lapu City around 6 a.m. yesterday.

Homicide investigators at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office identified the body as that of Roimme Companion, an on-the-job trainee in a call center and a resident of Sitio Tisa, Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

Police Officer 3 John Carlo Jocutan said Companion’s body was found by a crew of Wanderer Cebu Tugboat around 5:30 in the morning.

“Nasugatan sa mga crew ang patay’ng lawas sa biktima. Ilaha dayon to gidala sa may baybayon sa Poblacion,” Jocutan said.

Jocutan said the crew called the attention of nearby residents in the area and then sought help from the police.

Initial investigation revealed that before Companion was found dead, he went to Bohol province to join a certain activity and to visit his girlfriend.

“According sa mga ginikanan, niadto ni siya sa Bohol last Saturday kay naa daw group activity unya miadto sad ni siya sa balay sa iyahang girlfriend,” Jocutan said.

Companion’s parents told the police that by the time their son went back home from Bohol, he was “aloof and withdrawn.”

“Naghinuktok daw ni siya pagkaabot sa balay,” Jocutan said.

Police cannot determine yet if Companion committed suicide as they are still conducting a follow-up investigation, now that they have recovered his mobile phone.

Companion’s body was brought to Surelife Funeral Homes for autopsy.

Last Monday, an unidentified man, wearing undergarment only, was also found dead by fisherman in the waters off Gapas-Gapas islet, Barangay Day-as in Cordova town.  (FREEMAN)
