Ex-convict shot dead
CEBU, Philippines - A 48-year-old man, reportedly an ex-convict, was found dead at sitio Boundary in Barangay Tungkil, Minglanilla town yesterday morning.
The victim, identified as Ceasario Bacus and resident of the sitio, sustained gunshot wound in his head.
Eduardo Binuya, neighbor of the victim told reporters that, at around 3 a.m., he went outside of his house with his wife to answer the call of nature. They saw Bacus and heard an “unusual sound” from the latter’s mouth, but they ignored this and headed back to their house.
When they woke up later on, Eduardo and his wife went out to water their vegetables and it was then that they found Bacus already dead. “Wa mi niduol niya kay nakuyawan man mi. Mao to pagtan-aw namo gipusil man diay,” Eduardo said.
Other residents also narrated they heard a burst of fire but also ignored this, believing that the children were just playing “lantaka.”
Eduardo later recalled that Bacus told him he had a threat to his life, but Bacus’ relatives refused to comment on this.
Chief Inspector Franco Oriol, Minglanilla Police chief, told The Freeman via text message that the incident was related to illegal drugs, probably because the victim might have failed to remit the proceeds of the drugs he was selling.
Bacus was detained thrice for selling illegal drugs, said Oriol, adding that a follow-up investigation into the incident is now being conducted.—Gabriel C. Bonjoc/RAE (FREEMAN)
