John Yre to resign as Talisay admin

Gabriel Bonjoc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – John Yre De los Reyes confirmed he will resign as Talisay City administrator but not until February next year.

The official told The FREEMAN he will give up his post to focus on campaigning for the candidacy of his father, Mayor Johnny “JVR” De los Reyes, who is seeking re-election in the 2016 polls.

John Yre denied insinuations that there are ongoing conflicts within the local Liberal Party in Talisay which are forcing him to resign. He said these reports are baseless.

He said Mayor JVR and City Legal Officer Alfredo Sipalay had asked him to resign so he can perform his task as the campaign manager of LP’s entire slate in Talisay.

"Mao’y gusto sa grupo nga ako’y tigpamaba ni mayor pareha gud sa previous nga administrasyon pero wala lang to siya mo-resign," Yre said, referring to Ritchel Bacaltos who campaigned for then mayor Socrates Fernandez.

The younger De los Reyes, who is pursuing Law studies, said he is now contemplating not to enroll next semester due to his campaign job.

"Confirmed na na. I will resign as administrator kay support man ta," he said.

Sipalay, who is aspiring as city councilor, had told reporters before filing their certificates of candidacy that he was invited to be Mayor JVR's running mate. Sipalay’s response was that he will accept the offer with the condition that Yre and James, brother of JVR, would resign from their respective posts.

However, Sipalay refused to elaborate his reasons.

Sipalay noted the same condition when he was offered the chairmanship of the Bids and Awards Committee.

Mayor JVR and Yre are facing charges of graft and corruption before the Office of Ombudsman. (FREEMAN)
