‘Tanod’ stabbed by man gone amok

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 69-year-old chief tanod of Barangay Linao, Talisay City was wounded after he was stabbed by a man who went amok Thursday midnight in Sitio San Miguel.

The victim, Dominador Poncardas, sustained stab wounds in his back and abdomen. He was allegedly stabbed by Mark Kevin Echavez, 27, resident of the said place.

Initial investigation revealed that Echavez was reported to have gone wild that night, prompting Poncardas to respond.

Poncardas approached the suspect and tried to pacify him.

Echavez eventually yielded and appeared to have calmed down, only to know that it was only for a moment.

Echavez suddenly went to stab the victim at the back and abdomen.

The victim was rushed to Talisay City District Hospital and was later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center to get further medical attention.

Meanwhile, during the hot pursuit operation, the suspect was arrested in his house.

The police recovered from him the knife he allegedly used in the stabbing.

They have already placed the suspect behind bars while waiting for appropriate charges to be filed against the latter. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc of BANAT News
