CEBU, Philippines – The Lapu-Lapu City government spent P204 million on infrastructure projects last year, bringing the total length of concreted roads to 48 kilometers out of 67.2.
Mayor Paz Radaza, in her recent State of the City Address, said the number translates to 70 percent of Lapu-Lapu City roads already cemented under her administration since 2010.
Within the same period, a total of six kilometers of drainage work has been constructed. These drainage projects are located on Bagong Silang Elementary School in Barangay Pajac going to Sitio Humay-Humay, Barangay Pajo.
"That is what you demanded and I have delivered it," Radaza told a crowd of 8,000 at the Hoops Dome in Barangay Gun-ob.
The mayor said that the installation of drainage project along Lopez Jaena Street and Martir Street in Barangay Poblacion is ongoing.
Felix Gila, 55, president of Lapu-Lapu City Confederation of Tricycles, Operators and Driver's Association (LACTODA) told The Freeman that streets were fixed and cemented after his group complained about uneven roads.
LACTODA has more than 100 members and 32 tricycle and jeepney group leaders.
"Kung tan-awon nimo, ang kalsada kada barangay, makita nimo nga hapsay na. Dili pareha sa una nga maglisod mi og agi ug sa paghatud sa mga pasahero," he said.
Gila said their group is thankful to the mayor for "listening" to their pleas.
Radaza also said the mini Hoopsdome was also constructed last year in Olango Island to "mimic" the Hoopsdome in Barangay Gun-ob. It was similarly painted with the city's brand colors.
The mini Hoopsdome was constructed for the recreational and sports-related activities of residents in the island.
