Traffic woes also affecting Mandaue businesses

CEBU, Philippines – Motorists are not the only ones affected by traffic congestion in Mandaue City now that most of the city’s major thoroughfares are undergoing upgrade.

Most businessmen in the city are also affected by the traffic woes, shared newly installed Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Donato Busa.

Busa said they are hoping that the Department of Public Works and Highways will fast-track its road works because there are already businesses in the city that are affected by the congestion, especially those engaged in forwarding business.

"You cannot blame anyone because it is part of the development and besides, ang mga vehicles pa lang nga moagi sa Mandae from Lapu-Lapu alone is up to 380,000 per day, according to the mayor," Busa said.

But even if the traffic situation in the city is considered bad, this did not dampen the spirit of 13,000 businessmen who still decided to continue to pour in their investments in the city, he added.

Meanwhile, Busa said the MCCI is also glad that the City Hall has implemented the Performance Governance System as it expedites the process of securing business permits.

Busa was elected as MCCI president last June 3.

As the new MCCI head, Busa aims to unite all businessmen in the city and come up with a Packaging Design Center so that all Mandaue-made products be packaged better and be more competitive. He said this can only be achieved through the support of the city government.

Under his leadership, he also hopes to make the city require all businesses to “synergize” with the MCCI. He said they have asked city officials to craft an ordinance making this possible.

Last Saturday, MCCI opened the Mandaue Business Month as they also marked their 50th anniversary.
