Woman surrenders after hacking stepdad
CEBU, Philippines - A 24-year-old woman surrendered to the police after reportedly hacking her stepfather on Wednesday morning in Barangay Can-asujan, Carcar City.
In her defense, Jenny Mateo alleged that she ended up hacking her stepfather Edgar Cuizon after the latter choked her. She claimed she tried to intervene and pacify her quarreling mother and Cuizon, thus angering the man.
Christopher Enand, a non-uniformed personnel of Carcar City Police Station, said Mateo saw her mother being slapped by his drunken stepfather, so she interned.
However, her stepfather got irked when she tried to stop him. He then held her and eventually choked her, she told the police.
Mateo further said she tried to break free from her stepfather’s firm grip but to no avail, until she found a bolo nearby and used it to hack the man’s arms.
Because Cuizon was injured in his arms, he lost grip of Mateo who then escaped and went straight to the police station.
Cuizon was brought to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar City for immediate treatment while Mateo had been detained by the police while waiting whether or not her stepfather will pursue a case against her.
If ever Cuizon fails to file a case within the reglementary period, police said they will release the Mateo from detention.
Enad said Mateo told him that her stepfather is a good man but was not able to control himself when he gets drunk.
