Woman turns century old in Lapu-Lapu City

CEBU, Philippines – The Lapu-Lapu City government yesterday threw a post-birthday celebration for the sixth centenarian in the city in Barangay Punta Engaño.

Felisa Pagobo, 100, celebrated her birthday last February 25.

Mayor Paz Radaza visited the former fisherwoman in her house in Sitio Malingin, bringing lechon, pancit, puso and birthday cake.

Pagobo, who had cough, said people should always have positive outlook in life and not think too much about bad health and circumstances to make living more worthwhile.

"Naa ra na sa huna-huna sa tawo ang magkasakit," Pagobo said.

She was happy that her family celebrated her birthday again and was thankful that the mayor was present during the celebration.

Pagobo is a grandmother of 13 children from her 14 children who currently live in different places within the city.

Pagobo shared that aside from pork and vegetables, fish is her all-time favorite food.

Meanwhile, Radaza said giving incentives to senior citizens like Pagobo is one of the priorities under her administration.

Lapu-Lapu City residents who reach the age of 100 years old will get incentives from the city, she said.

Last year, Pacita Lapag-Aujero, who lives in Barangay Pajo, was also treated to a birthday party by the city government. She will turn 101 years old this March 17.

Lapu-Lapu City's 30 barangays are home to 18,000 registered senior citizens.
