CEBU, Philippines – A 30-year-old man was wounded after one of two motorcycle-riding suspects shot him twice near a cockfight area Saturday evening in Barangay Suba-basbas, Lapu-Lapu City.
Edmar Espinosa, resident of Barangay Marigondon, was hit in the left shoulder and rushed to Mactan Doctors' Hospital for medical treatment.
The suspects fled from the scene reportedly by taking the road to Sitio Sudtunggan, Barangay Basak.
Police Officer 3 Lydo Pinos, homicide investigator at Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, had only identified suspects as "Don-don" and "Yan-yan," based on their initial investigation.
Investigation revealed that few hours before the incident, the victim reportedly went to a cockfight near the area and decided to go home late in the evening.
Espinosa was driving white motorcycle bearing plate number GS7157 when he suddenly sensed that he was being tailed by the suspects onboard a blue motorcycle.
Moments later, one of the two suspects reportedly fired at Espinosa. The victim fell to the ground.
Police are studying on arguments at the cockfight as one of the possible motives into Espinosa's shooting. They are still conducting follow-up investigation.
Pinos said the Homicide Office filed frustrated murder case against the two men who were riding in tandem.
