CEBU, Philippines – A house in Purok Caimito, Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City woke up to a fire yesterday dawn that left over P120,000 in damages.
Investigators said the fire may have started from a lighted candle on a plastic holder that remained unattended.
The fire destroyed parts of the two-story residence of Ruel Dela Rama, according to Senior Fire Officer 4 Rodrigo Ygot of Lapu-Lapu City Fire Department.
Ygot said his team responded to the alarm at 1:21 a.m. assisted by the city's fire truck in the mentioned barangay.
A relative of Dela Rama who also lives in the same house said the fire started in their living room where a lighted candle was believed to have melted down.
The house was made of semi-concrete materials.
The fire was however declared under control after five minutes, according to Ygot.
The fire officer added that no family member was hurt during the incident.
Ygot said the family is currently living with their relatives while they work to rebuild their own house.
