SUV hits, kills man, 68, at Lapu-Lapu bridge
CEBU, Philippines - A 68-year-old man died on the spot after he was hit by a sports utility vehicle at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday near the foot of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge at Barangay Pusok in Lapu-Lapu City.
The victim, identified as Marcelino Lubos, was carrying a sack full of scrap materials when the white Chevrolet SUV (with temporary plate number 7AT-159068), running at full speed, hit him.
Police Officer 3 Giovanni Babano, of the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said the SUV, owned by Joselita Luza, 48, a native of Pilar town in Bohol, was about to go up the bridge on its way to Mandaue City.
The impact caused Lubos's body to flew off the bridge's yellow railings. He was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu District Hospital, and then moved to the Mactan Doctor's Hospital where physicians declared him dead on arrival.
Babano said there was neither family nor relative who came to claim Lubos's remains laid at a funeral home in Barangay Basak of the city.
Luza, for her part, was detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Detention Cell, Babano added. (FREEMAN)
