Guard shot with own gun

CEBU, Philippines – A 55-year-old security guard was wounded after he was shot by a construction worker inside the guard house of Mactan Newton in Barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday morning.

Ruben Arrogante, a  guard under Maya Security Agency and resident of Barangay Pit-os, Cebu City, sustained wounds near his right eye and was rushed to Mactan Doctors' Hospital.

According to Police Officer 3 Lydo Pinos of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section, Arrogante was manning when alleged suspect Bernabe Danda, 38, a native of Sibugay town, Zamboanga del Sur who works in a construction project inside Mactan Newtown, barged inside the guard house.

Pinos said a misunderstanding erupted between Arrogante and Danda, which could have prompted the latter to pull out the victim's gun and to shoot him twice.

After the incident, the suspect left but was then arrested by responding police officers of Mactan Police Station.

Police recovered two live ammunition and another two empty shells of bullets that reportedly came from a .38 caliber revolver.

Pinos said the suspect will face a frustrated homicide case and is now detained at Lapu-Lapu City Detention Cell.
