Group calls for comprehensive traffic plan

CEBU, Philippines – The National Confederation of Transportworkers Union-Central Visayas will propose a comprehensive traffic plan in Mandaue City as talks about tricycles banned to ply the city's national highways linger.

NCTU-CV vice president Romeo Armamento yesterday confirmed there are now talks on banning tricycles from Maguikay and Cabancalan to the city proper. These routes involve passing through the national highway, he said.

Armamento said sooner or later other routes to be affected will include H. Cortes to Wireless, Canduman to Tintay, Super Metro to Paknaan, among others.

"Kinahanglan ang gobyerno adunay alternatibong panginabuhian nga ihatag sa mga apektadong tricycle drivers. Dapat comprehensive traffic plan gyud di kay tagi-tagi ang plano sa gobyerno," said Armamento.

He added that tricycle drivers who will be affected have their own families to feed and educate.

With this possible banning of tricycles from passing through the national highways, NCTU-CV is calling for a traffic summit to iron out the matter with transport officials.
