3 die as bikes clash

CEBU, Philippines - Three persons died after two motorcycles figured in a head-on collision yesterday dawn on North Road in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City.

Police Officer 3 Melvin Leones of Mandaue City Traffic Division identified the fatalities as Pedro Tumulak, 32, single, of Barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City and his back-rider Victor Manatad Jr., 25, single, of Lapu-Lapu City.

Another male person who died from the incident remained unidentified as of press time yesterday.

PO3 Leones said both vehicles involved in the collision were Honda XRM motorcycles.

The unidentified male driver was travelling on a motorbike with plate no. 780-1246-613, registered under the name of Lyka Jane Domen of Barangay Ibabao, Cordova town, heading towards Consolacion town while Tumulak's motorcycle with plate no. 780-1326-203 was moving towards Cebu City.

After the collision, both motorcycles were badly damaged.

All three victims were then immediately brought to Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City but were declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.

PO3 Leones said police investigator on the case failed to identify who was at fault because all the three victims died during the accident and none of them could give testimonies.

There were some bystanders who witnessed the accident but not of them would testify.

The collision was  not caught by any city CCTV camera because it took place at the national highway and the city's cameras are only installed in major intersections.  (FREEMAN)
