New Talisay school exec assumes office
CEBU, Philippines – Education Secretary Armin Luistro has ordered the replacement of Talisay City Division Schools Superintendent Woodrow Denuyo after the latter has served for more than three years in the district.
Denuyo did not show up during the turnover ceremony at the City Sports Complex in Barangay Poblacion. Dr. Leah Navares assumed the office vacated by Denuyo, who will be reassigned to the Department of Education regional office.
DepEd Regional Director Carmelita Dulangon led the installation of Navares in a rite attended by Mayor Johnny De los Reyes and around 1,000 public school teachers in the city.
Navares, as new school head in Talisay district, will now sign communications and approve appointments delegated to schools division superintendents.
In her message, Dulangon encouraged the newly installed division superintendent to take care of her people, serves her people wholeheartedly, guides her people and make sure that the vision, mission and goals of the department are attained.
During the ceremony, Dulangon took side comment towards the former school official by saying: “Kita moserbisyo ug dili kita ang serbisyohan sa mga maestra kay tao sab na sila nga naay pamilya.”
Dulangon and Denuyo were at odds because of the issue involving some teacher-applicants in the city.
Denuyo was facing several complaints from a number of teacher-applicants and permanent teachers because of his alleged handling of plantilla items, the registry of qualified applicants and application for promotion to higher positions.
Dulangon, who will be retiring next month, revealed during her speech that she has been receiving death threats from a certain individual. Dulangon even presented it to the teachers about her text message that she received in the middle of the turnover ceremony.
The text message read, “to the worst RD I’ve ever known.” According to the text message, Dulangon has never been a good school division superintendent at her time and even plays favoritism and listens to gossips.
“Hope you could be completely happy while enjoying your retirement while some of your children were hurting. God is not sleeping anyway and He sees what you were doing to His children you’ve hurt. RIP”, the text message read.
Dulangon said he has had a suspect in mind who sent the text message but refused to name names.
“No other person. Wa nalang nako gi-trace kung si kinsa,” Dulangon added.
Denuyo, however, refused to comment on the statement for his non-presence on the turnover ceremony. —/JRS
