CEBU, Philippines – Two carwash boys discovered three grenades Thursday afternoon in the waters of Pilipog Creek in Cordova town, police said.

The grenades were reportedly found by Christopher Alfar, 18, a resident of Barangay Ibabao, Cordova, and Jonathan Palmones, 16, of Barangay Pilipog around 3:18 in the afternoon.

Both work as a carwash boys at Lucky 3 Shine and Dine Carwash in Sitio Tacan, Barangay Babag.

According to Police Officer 1 Proterio Doble of Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, the two were wading through the creek looking for seashells when one of them accidentally stepped on a hard object buried in the mud.

Curious, the two tried to reach it under the water only to discover the three bombs.

They immediately reported the incident to their employer Danilo Cesar who then called up police for assistance.

SWAT personnel responded to the scene and brought with them their K-9 unit. PO1 Doble examined the three bombs and identified them as rifle grenades.

After verification, the explosives were turned over to the SWAT for proper disposition.

PO1 Doble said they will be conducting further investigation to determine who may have left the grenades in the creek.
