Guard shoots self by mistake

CEBU, Philippines- A security guard was rushed to the hospital after he accidentally shot himself while using a comfort room at a gas station on Natalio Bacalso Avenue corner Macopa Street, Barangay Basak San Nicholas, Cebu City on Tuesday.

Ronel Arbulario Lacio, 26, of Barangay Tejero, Cebu City was rushed to the hospital after he sustained a gunshot wound in his right arm.

In a telephone interview, Police Officer 1 Junimark Ungab, homicide investigator, said Lacio went inside Total Gas Station's comfort room to answer the call of nature.

While he was inside the CR, Lacio reportedly placed his gun on the lavatory.

He then stood up and fixed his uniform.

While fixing his uniform, however, the gun accidentally fell and fired, hitting Lacio in the arm.

Lacio felt numb and asked the help of pump attendant Leofel Lagarde who brought him to Cebu City Medical Center.

"Nasaghiran ra to niya kay gamay man gud kaayo ang CR, huot kaayo maong pagbarog niya, iyang gitarong iyang uniform, wa siguro siya kabantay nga nasaghiran diay," Ungab said.

Ungab said the bullet entered through Lacio's lower right arm and cut its way through his upper right arm.

Police recovered from the scene the colt automatic caliber 9mm, six live ammunition and one empty shell.

Meanwhile, a mother of a man wanted for murder case was arrested by the police for illegal possession of firearms while his son evaded the police serving his warrant of arrest in Barangay Bahay, Sibonga town on Tuesday.

Susana Jeminez, 48, was arrested after she was caught allegedly in possession of a hand gun.

Ryan Jimenez, who eluded arrest, has a standing warrant of arrest for murder and has been in hiding for a year.

Police Officer 2 Ederlino Bacusmos said the police have received information that Jimenez is at their home.

They immediately conducted a joint operation with the Regional Public Safety Battalion-7 and went to Jimenez' house.

However, Jimenez was able to spot the presence of the police and hurriedly jumped out of their single-story house's window to elude arrest, investigation revealed.

"Pag-abot namo sa area, nakamatikod man dayon siya nga naay mga polis gapadung, mao to nilayat siya dayon unya nidagan sa likod," Bacusmos said.

Bacusmos added that while trying to evade arrest, Jimenez threw something on the grassy area which was later discovered to be a .38 caliber revolver.

Susana, Ryan's mother, who was in the house during arrest tried to run to the left portion of the house.

However, the police had blocked her way out and confiscated a 9mm pistol with silencer, two magazines each with eight and seven pieces of live ammunition, respectively. (FREEMAN)
