Cuizon named airport's second boss
CEBU, Philippines – Former director of Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board- 7 Ahmed Cuizon already took his oath as new assistant general manager of Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority.
He was sworn in to his new duty by lawyer Nigel Paul Villarete, MCIAA general manager, yesterday morning at the Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino in Lapu-Lapu City.
Villarete confirmed that Cuizon can officially start his duties as assistant GM in the airport.
"Yes, but if you talk about procedures, he needs to sign one more document," he said.
Villarete said he will give orientations and instructions to Cuizon in administering the airport.
Cuizon had served the LTFRB for four years, although he served as head of the airport's Public Information Office for 14 years.
Cuizon confirmed that he was appointed by Villarete to the post after he applied for the managerial position last August, approved only this October.
"This is a step of mine," Cuizon said when asked about why he left LTFRB.
The newly appointed assistant GM explained that this is considered a promotional position.
He added that in LTFRB, there are many "layers" that need to be considered especially in attending the concerns of the department heads in Manila.
"Here, we only have the general manager and the Board of Directors," Cuizon said.
Cuizon is the lone applicant for the position but Villarete said that Cuizon fits the position since he possesses management and leadership skills.
"He maintained and espoused the good governance as far as civil service and career executive services are concerned," Villarete said.
Villarete added that there are a lot of things to improve in administering the airport and these may be attained with the help of an assistant.
The MCIAA office is temporarily housed inside the Waterfront Airport Hotel in preparation for the GMR-Megawide expansion project for the new airport. – /JMD
