CEBU, Philippines – Some barangays in Lapu-Lapu City are closely monitoring private vehicles that allegedly dump their waste in the barangays' vacant lots.
Pajo Barangay Captain Junard "Ahong" Chan said he has directed barangay watchers to be vigilant during nighttime as these vehicles reportedly just throw away garbage on vacant lots at these hours.
The Lapu-Lapu City Solid Waste Management Office has tasked all barangay captains to collect their garbage.
The city government will provide support to the barangay, in case the barangay fails to collect its garbage due to mechanical troubles experienced by their mini-garbage truck.
Some barangay captains have told that they encourage the residents to continue practice of garbage segregation.
But they complained that there are other persons who dump their garbage at their barangays, especially in private-owned lots.
"Nagduda mi nga ang naghimo niini nga mulopyo sa laing lugar unya ilabay lang gyud ang ilang basura sa ato (We believe those who are behind this are residents from other places who come over our barangay just to dump their waste)," Chan said.
