Strangers disarm guard on duty

CEBU, Philippines – A security guard was shot by two unidentified strangers while on duty in a hardware enterprise in Sitio Wasiwas, Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City Friday dawn.

The victim was identified as SG Gerry Ursal, 32, who is a resident of Sitio Guise, Barangay Pajac. Ursal works under the management of AJS Security Agency and was assigned at Duane and Dwight Enterprises in Barangay Marigondon.

Initial investigation made by Police Officer 3 Lydo Pinos of Lapu-lapu City Police Office- Homicide investigation revealed that the shooting happened around 2:30 in the morning.

Ursal was on his post near the entrance of the hardware when suddenly, two men appeared behind him, provoking to fire their gun if Ursal won't hand them his shotgun.

The security guard refused but the suspects tried to get the shotgun away from him anyway, police report said.

Without any hesitation, one of the suspects knocked Ursal's head off using the handle of the gun, the report added.

Ursal lost his consciousness and was shot in the left thigh. He also obtained bruises on his head.

The unidentified suspects fled out from the scene, carting away Ursal's firearm.

Pinos said Ursal was immediately brought to Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital and was transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for further medical attention.

Police officers conducted an investigation for the possible identification of the two suspects.
