CEBU, Philippines - Unidentified persons attempted to rob a pawnshop along Sergio Osmeña Street in Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City but were not able to succeed due to an alarm system placed inside the establishment.

According to Police Officer 1 Jason Elnar of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Station 3, a certain Rose Lani Gopuco, 35, resident of A.S. Fortuna Street, Mandaue City and owner of the Super R Pawnshop, went to their office and filed a complaint that two persons attempted to crash the pawnshop.

Elnar said a crushed cemented wall was discovered at the back of the pawnshop. The incident was believed to have happened around 11:20 in the evening.

An acetylene cutting outfit, adjustable tiring range, two crow bars, a flat screw, a knife, hydraulic jack, two hand drills and a wire cutter were also seen on the ground prompting police to believe that an "acetylene group" may have been responsible for it.

Elnar said police authorities are still conducting an investigation to identify the suspects. — Christell Fatima M. Tudtud (FREEMAN)
