As Jan. 2015 polls near brgys to support to SK registration drive
CEBU, Philippines – Barangay officials in Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue Cities will assist the Commission on Elections in their information drive on the incoming voter's registration in preparation for the Sangguniang Kabataan elections on February 21, 2015.
This after the Comelec recently announced the holding of the election next year for the SK and the holding of voter's registration next week.
Comelec officials said the registration period is scheduled from September 20 to 29, 2014.
Maribago barangay councilor Arvin Abing told The FREEMAN that there is a need to inform the youth of the incoming registration and the elections next year.
Abing said with the information drive, the youth will register within a nine-day period and participate the elections.
In Mandaue City, barangay captains and councilors also assured to support the information drive.
Based of the announcement made by Comelec, Filipino citizens who are or shall be 15 to17 years old on or before February 21, 2015 who were unable to register during the SK registration on July 22 to 31, 2013 and who are residing in the barangay for at least six months, are qualified to participate in the SK polls.
The qualified voters could also register at the Comelec office in the city or municipality where they reside.
Registrants can bring any of the following: birth or baptismal certificate, school records or any other document that will establish their identity and qualifications.
If these documents are not applicable, the Comelec said any person may, under oath, identify the applicants.
