Paz orders cops to boost efforts against cyberporn

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza directed the police to intensify the campaign against cyberpornography and arrest violators.

Mayor Radaza made the directives to Lapu-Lapu police in her message during the opening program of the 19th Police Community Relations Month Celebration in the city read by City Administrator Teodulo Ybanez.

"Sayod man siguro kamo sa kadtong nadakpan nga usa ka Australian national, sakit kayo paminawon nga ang uban nga mga ginikanan maoy nagtukmod sa mga bata sa cyberpornography" said Mayor Radaza's message.

Mayor Radaza directed the Lapu-Lapu police to strengthen their efforts to reach out to the community to educate the parents and the children to resist the lure of cyberpornography.

"I hope that you will help me on this. This is something we should fight against. The victims of cyberpornography are women and children and we all know they are the most vulnerable members of society," said Mayor Radaza.

Aside from the campaign against cyberpornography, Mayor Radaza also cited the problems of illegal drugs.

He lauded the police under the leadership of acting city police chief Senior Superintendent Armando Radoc  for the series of arrest against drug dealers.

"Let it be known that your efforts have not gone unnoticed. I salute you for working double time in fighting this menace, but let us not stop here," said Mayor Radaza.

The city mayor further said that the problem of illegal drugs is complex saying that if they apprehend a drug dealer, another one will take his or her place in the trade.

Radoc in a separate interview said they accepted the challenge and directives of Mayor Radaza.

Radoc said they have now tapped the barangay officials and the community in the fight against illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, also a highlight in yesterday's program was the giving of certificates to barangay officials, stakeholders and the police officers who played important role in the campaign to maintain peace and order in the city.
