Boy saved from fire

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A six-year-old boy was able to save himself after he accidentally set on fire a bedroom of a two-storey house Friday evening in Emerald Subdivision, Barangay Cabancalan, Mandaue City.

The incident took place inside the duplex house owned by a certain Guia Tan.

Fire investigators have yet to establish the relationship of the boy to the owner of the said house.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Julius Lua of the Mandaue City Fire Department said the boy was under the care of an  aunt who failed to notice that the boy was playing with a lighter. Investigation showed that the boy went inside the bedroom of Tan playing with the lighter.

The boy was then afraid when he saw the flames and when the fire started coming out of the room, he shouted for help which alarmed his aunt.

Since neighbors were immediately able to notice the flames, they took turns in putting out the fire and upon arrival of the firetrucks, it was then controlled five minutes after and fully extinguished 30 minutes later.

Fire's damage was pegged at P100,000.

Last Thursday evening, two siblings aged nine and 15 years old were also able to elude death after they saved themselves when fire hit their home made of light materials in Sitio Kulo, Barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City. (FREEMAN)
