After galleon's resignation three candidates for TCC prexy floated

CEBU, Philippines - At least three names have been floated as likely to take over the management of Talisay City College after acting president Dr. Joseph Sol Galleon tendered his resignation to Mayor Johnny de los Reyes.

The names of Dr. Edgar Martinez, the dean of instruction and discipline; city legal officer Alfredo Sipalay and Dr. Victor Villaganas, president of Cebu Technological University, have been heard as possible temporary replacement of Galleon.

De los Reyes, however, said that the decision will rest on the majority of the members of the BOT, which is the highest governing body in TCC.

The board has 11 members with the mayor as chairman, the college president as vice chairman, Cebu first district Representative Gerald Anthony Gullas as honorary member and Talisay City District Superintendent Woodrow Denuyo as board secretary.

Other members include the chairman of the committee on education, the chairman of the committee on budget and finance, the president of Cebu Normal University, the president of Cebu Technological University, the regional director of CHED, the city treasurer, and the president of the Talisay Chamber of Commerce.

De los Reyes said he already sent a letter to all members of the BOT that the meeting will convene on Friday at the Commission on Higher Education office in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

City Councilor Richard Francis Aznar, who is the chairman of the committee on education and one of the members of the BOT, said he would prefer that an educator and a Talisaynon will sit as president of TCC.

Last June 22, Galleon sent to the Board of Trustees, through De los Reyes, a resignation letter that will take effect today.

Galleon pointed out that he is not happy staying too long in the college because "I don't have peace of mind in Talisay City College, and I feel I cannot survive in there."

The resignation, according to Galleon, was also caused by what he said was his suffering of too much physical, psychological and emotional stresses in handling the affairs of the school.

He also said that his family is against him serving the city college and that his doctor advised him to take a sick leave.
