METROPOLICE: Liloan cops on alert over escape rumors

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Following reports of an alleged plan of an inmate to escape, the Liloan police immediately conducted greyhound operation within the Liloan Municipal Jail Thursday.

Police Inspector Priscilo Roble, deputy for operations of the Liloan Police Station, said they received information regarding an inmate's plan to escape prompting them to conduct an operation greyhound that included a thorough search inside each cell to prevent the escape.

During the search, police confiscated a medium packet believed to be shabu. However, no one claimed to have owned it.

Aside from that, police also seized steel spoons and belts which could have been possibly used as weapons and for suicidal attempts, respectively.

Roble said they had past incidents of suicide with the used of belts.

There are more than 20 inmates in the jail and most of them have high-profile cases.

"Possible nga ang mga inmates nga naay high-profile cases maoy nagplano sa pag-ikyas," Roble said in a phone interview, adding that they lack personnel which caused them to do multi-tasking jobs.

He further said the lack of manpower has allowed some of the inmates' visitors to bring shabu inside the jail as they cannot monitor each cell frequently. — Samuelle Joyrin C. Caing and Patrice Kate Rebuta, USJ-R MassComm Interns (FREEMAN)
