Naga satellite market opens, costs P7.5M

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - As part of its thrust to improve basic services for the people, the City of Naga on Thursday opened its P7.5-million satellite public market in Barangay Tuyan.

"This is our objective, to bring the services of the government closer to the people of Naga," said Mayor Valdemar Chiong.

Chiong led the ceremonial ribbon-cutting while Fr. Isidrito Ducao III blessed the new market, which is located along the national highway next to Tuyan Elementary School.

The new market boasts for its 19 spacious stalls for dry goods and 17 more for the fish and meat sections.

Chiong said the facility, including a driveway and a parking space, is sitting on a 1,600-square meter lot.

Chiong said the new facility is only the first step in the city's goal to further improve the delivery of basic services to the Nagahanons, even those living in remote areas.

He said more such projects will be built in other barangays, like Inayagan and those in upland areas.

Tuyan Barangay Captain Luzminda Lapitan said the new market will help both the market- goers and vendors in their village. She said they will no longer have to travel far just to buy their basic provisions.

"This only signifies the sincere intention of our beloved mayor to uplift the living conditions of our constituents," said Lapitan. (FREEMAN)
