CEBU, Philippines - A man was arrested yesterday dawn after a taxi driver filed a complaint against him for using counterfeit money to pay for his fare.

Jose Ramon Osmeña, 30, of Barangay Cabancalan, Mandaue City was arrested after he handed a fake P500 bill for his taxi fare to Allan Inopia,40, a driver of Ken Taxi.

Police Officer 1 Jerome Lendio of Centro Police Station said the suspect boarded the taxi driven by Inopia from Barangay Banilad to the old public market in Barangay Centro.

He then paid Inopia the fake money. The suspect was immediately able to detect it and confronted the victim.

However, a heated argument ensued between the two and members of the City Mobile Group, who passed by, brought them to the Centro Police Station where the bill was found to be fake indeed.

The suspect was immediately locked up in jail.

A case of illegal use of false treasury was filed against the suspect yesterday before the Mandaue City Prosecutor's Office. (FREEMAN)
