CEBU, Philippines - Persons with disabilities in Lapu-Lapu City will no longer have to go to Cebu City to undergo a costly therapy after the city government recently inaugurated a two-story building equipped with facilities for their rehabilitation therapy.

Although this Stimulation and Therapeutic Activity Center was already existent since 2008 in Sitio Soong in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza has added more facilities for the recovery of the city's PWDs.

More than 400 PWDs, including deaf-mutes, will benefit from free consultation and therapy sessions given at the STAC now that it is relocated in Sitio Tugas, Barangay Gun-ob.

The center has facilities for sensory stimulation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, counseling and special education. It is run by a five-worker staff.

The building also has a gym area, function room and a kitchen and is equipped with wheel chairs, ramps and PWD-friendly comfort rooms.

Mayor Radaza, during the inauguration, said the construction of the two-story building is a proof of her administration's commitment to provide the city's constituents with equal access to basic services.

"This center will provide our brothers and sisters who are physically challenged of their needed therapy so that they will be happy and become productive individuals," Radaza said.
