German foundation convenes in Talisay

CEBU, Philippines -  To mark the 100 years of the Schoenstatt's foundation, the Schoenstatt Family in the Philippines will hold its second National Convention on May 2 to 4 in Barangay Lawaan III, Talisay City.

The celebration, themed "Your Covenant, Our Mission," is expected to gather at least 250 members of the Schoenstatt family all over the country.

The event will be held at the Spirituality Center in Lawaan III, Talisay City.

According to a statement released to The FREEMAN, among the highlights of the activity is Holy Mass with Emeritus Cardinal Vidal, which will be held 4 p.m. on May 3. It will be followed by a festive jubilee celebration.

The life and times of Fr. Joseph Kentenich, who founded the Schoenstatt movement in 1914, will also be highlighted in the convention sessions and workshops.

"The Philippines is privileged to have a replica of the original shrine in Vallendar, Germany.  There are more than 200 replicas (known as "daughter shrines") throughout the world. Our Filipino 'daughter' shrine is located atop a sprawling hill in Lawaan 3, Talisay City," read the statement.

The shrine was declared an archdiocesan shrine in 2008. During this centenary year, the Holy Father Pope Francis has granted a plenary indulgence to all who visit the shrine as part of a jubilee celebration and fulfill the normal requirements for indulgence.   (FREEMAN)
