METROPOLICE: Jetski testing goes wrong

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A boatman severely injured his head after he was hit by a jetski in the seawaters of Barangay Maribago in Lapu-Lapu City Tuesday afternoon.

William Aying, 33, a boatman of Tharseas Seacraft, was rushed to Mactan District Hospital after he sustained head injuries.

He was hit by jetski owned by PSI Leesports and driven by George Ruiz Cruda, a jetski mechanic who was testing the jetski he was repairing at the time of the incident.

Police Officer 1 Jomar Florentino of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section said Cruda was testing the jetski but while he was traversing the seawaters, he got surprised when he heard a loud sound under his jetski. And when he came to check, he realized he had hit someone.

He immediately brought the victim ashore and sought the help of people nearby in bringing him to the hospital.

It was learned that the victim went underwater to pull the anchor of his boat that got stuck. Aying said he did not also notice the jetski when he surfaced.

After bringing Aying to the hospital, Cruda immediately surrendered to the police and told them he and the jetski's owners were willing to shoulder the victim's hospital expenses. — (FREEMAN)
