Mandaue job order workers get a raise

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  Job order employees at the Mandaue City Hall have something to rejoice over.

This, as Mayor Jonas Cortes announced that effective April 1 this year, the salary of each job order employee at the City Hall will be increased by P35 per day .

From P265 per day, their salary will now jack up to P300.

Cortes, during the launching of the collapsible police outpost of Mandaue City Police Office last Thursday, said the increase in salary is "just fair considering that these employees play a vital role in the daily operations of the city government."

City Councilor Diosdado Suico, who is the chairman of the budget and appropriations committee of the Mandaue City Council, also announced they have already approved on first reading an ordinance he drafted seeking to "increase the honorarium of job order employees from P265 to P300, effective April 1, 2014 and appropriating funds therefore."

Suico also sponsored a separate resolution urging Michelle Yu, the Human Resource Office chief, to submit to his office the total number of job order employees in the city as basis of the budget appropriation.

During last Wednesday's session,  Suico also filed a floor resolution urging city treasurer lawyer Regal Oliva, to provide the council "a certification as to the availability of funds to cover the increase of  the daily wage from April to December  2014."

Close to 2,000 job order employees are currently working for the Mandaue City government.  (FREEMAN)
