Littering violations recorded in Talisay

CEBU, Philippines - At least nine violation apprehensions have been recorded as the Talisay City government revives the City Ordinance 2007-03, known as the Comprehensive Waste Management System of  the City of  Talisay or the Anti-Littering Law.

Mayor Johnny De los Reyes said he envisioned the city environment to be clean and free from garbage, especially the area near the Tabunok public market.

The city government last Monday revived the implementation of the anti-littering ordinance as part of his environmental awareness campaign.

"Mao na ning panahona nga kun duna moy mga ilabay nga basura sama sa papel o putos sa kendi o upos sa sigarilyo, ayaw mo pataka og labay. Mao ni gitawag og basura mo, ibulsa mo," De los Reyes said.

The mayor said the Anti-Littering Task Force will continue its information campaign on proper waste segregation and waste disposal in the barangays.

De los Reyes said violators of the Anti-Littering Law and those who indiscriminately throw their garbage anywhere will be penalized.

Fines imposed are P300 for the first offense, P500 for the second offense, and P1,000 for the third offense.

If violators cannot or will not pay the fine, according to De los Reyes, they will be required to render community service. (FREEMAN)
