Lapu boosts tourism drive among locals

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Office, in coordination with beach resorts owners, has intensified its education seminars among residents in Olango Island further attract more visitors to the place.

Hembler Mendoza, head of the Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Office, said they are considering the good potential of Olango Island in attracting more visitors, not only foreign guests but also domestic tourists.

At present, the Marine Sanctuary in Barangay Talima in Olango Island has attracted visitors, especially Koreans.

Hundred of Korean tourists visit the Island of Olango every week and enjoy watching fishes at the Marine Sanctuary. Some of them enjoy the bird sanctuary in Barangay Saband, also in Olango Island.

Mendoza said the success of the city government in promoting Olango Island will benefit the people in the island.

He further said that the local people in the island should know how to entertain them, and more importantly, uphold their security while in the island.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police has deployed "tourist police" in the island whose main duty is to assure the safety of visitors, specifically the foreign and domestic tourists. (FREEMAN)
