Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A fastfood chain cook died on the spot after he was shot by unidentified man yesterday dawn at the new PUJ terminal in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City.

Ysmael Gayo, a resident of said place working as a cook of Carlos' Batchoy in Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City, was already lifeless when responding police arrived in the crime scene.

Together with his motorcycle, he was found sprawling on the ground with a gunshot wound on the right chest.

Police investigation revealed that terminal security guard identified as Michael Escala heard three gunshots around 3:10 a.m. and upon peeping through the window, he saw the victim fell to the ground. A man, believed to be the suspect, walked casually away from the victim, he said.

A team from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation tried to revive the victim but the latter was no longer responsive.

Police recovered three empty shells of .45 caliber pistol in the crime scene. As of press time yesterday, authorities have not received any information yet from the victim's family as to the possible motive of the victim's killing while further investigation is still being conducted.

Meanwhile, in Mandaue City, a man was arrested after he was caught in the act of possessing a fake driver's license during a checkpoint in Barangay Ibabao past 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Jeofrey Tugade, 34, married and a resident of Barangay Jagobiao, was arrested by Centro Police Station PC/Insp. Jimmy Aguisanda.

PO2 Jason Estrera said that Tugade was among the motorists who were being flagged down during the checkpoint where their team normally checks on the drivers' licenses.

When Tugade handed  his license to the police, it was found to be too different from the genuine driver's license issued by the Land Transportation Office, which then  led to his arrest.

A case of the violation of the Republic Act 4136 or illegal possession of fake driver's license was charged against Tugade, who was made to fine P2,000 for the said crime.

It was also learned during interrogation that the license was bought by him from a fixer at the LTO in Mandaue City for P5,400. —(FREEMAN)
