Road concreting in Mandaue may give traffic woes

CEBU, Philippines - Some of Mandaue City's major thoroughfares will once again experience heavy traffic after the sixth engineering district of the Department of  Public Works and Highways (DPWH-7) recently announced that they will be implementing four major concreting projects in the city.

Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue head Edwin Ermac in a press conference on Wednesday said that the engineering office will start implementing the 800-meter stretch concreting project along the corner of M.C. Briones national highway to A.S. Fortuna Street in Barangay Banilad.

They will also implement road concreting along corner M.C. Briones national highway to M.L. Quezon Street in Barangay Maguikay with a stretch of 600 meters.

Another concreting project will also be implemented along Ouano Avenue near the Cebu International Convention Center at corner S.B. Cabahug Street and along the UN Avenue in Plaridel Street up to the Cansaga Bay.

Motorists are expected to experience heavy traffic congestions along M.C. Briones corner A.S. Fortuna and M.C Briones corner M.L. Quezon, where the bulk of traffic is hosted.

However, these areas will not be closed to motorists while the projects are being undertaken, Ermac said.

He said instead of opening all four lanes to motorists, three lanes will only be used as they have agreed with the DPWH that work will be done one lane at a time.

He added that there will be no rerouting scheme to be implemented because they will be dispatching the newly-hired 20 traffic enforcers by the city government.

Ermac appealed to the public to remain considerate and observe traffic signs for a smooth flow of traffic as he also assured that they will closely monitor the traffic while the projects are ongoing.
