CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City government yesterday converted the Banilad gymnasium in barangay Banilad into an evacuation center after several families from the typhoon-ravaged areas arrived in the city last Friday.
On that day, 21 families from Tacloban City, seven families from Tanawan Doay, Leyte, and 10 families from Guian, Samar arrived in Mandaue, public information officer Roger Paller said.
Paller said the families were temporarily housed at the Capitol Parish Church in Cebu City as have been agreed upon with DSWD-7.
These families were provided by the city with food and other basic necessities while waiting for their travel to Manila and Butuan City next week.
Paller said seven families of the workers of A.C Calderon Construction in barangay Opao have already arrived and are seeking temporary shelter at the company’s compound.
More families of their workers are set to arrived next week.
Evacuees are fetched from the harbor and are directly brought to the Banilad gym. (FREEMAN)
