CEBU, Philippines - Barangay Linao captain Fe Ylanan, the wife of Talisay City Councilor Valeriano Ylanan, she will run for president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) next month.
“Yes. I will run,†Ylanan said, despite the fact the Alayon group captured an overwhelming majority in the last barangay elections, with 18 out of 22 candidates.
She said the administration has to field a candidate against Alayon.
“Kinahanglan naay kontra ang Alayon,†she said.
Ylanan, however, dismissed Alayon’s claim it has 18 barangay captains on its side.
“We have seven barangay captains identified with the administration and not four as what they are claiming,†Ylanan said.
Ylanan alleged that barangays Lawaan I, Cansojong, San Roque, Linao, Dumlog, and Cansojong are identified with the administration of Mayor Johnny De los Reyes.
Alayon has five aspirants to choose from as its bet in the ABC presidential election, namely, Joel Orbiso of Jaclupan, Perla Cabanes of Tanke, Raul Cabañero of Bulacao, Delia Ybañez of Lawaan III, and Maning Cabriana of Tabunok.
Outgoing ABC president Charles Basillote of barangay Dumlog said the five captains are on the list.
Who should run for president will be decided by Alayon founder former first district congressman Eduardo Gullas and the core group of the party in Talisay.
Records in the last May elections show barangays Tabunok, Jaclupan, and Bulacao delivering good votes for the Alayon party.
Only Jaclupan delivered solid votes to the party but the barangay boasts a population of only 3,000 but Tabunok has 200,000.
Up to this time, Gullas and the Alayon group remain mum as to who will run for the top ABC post. (FREEMAN)
