Residents rescued after seeking refuge in culverts
CEBU, Philippines - Superintendent Resty Santos and other police personnel went to barangay Manipis to rescue residents who sought refuge in culverts after their houses were destroyed by strong winds spawned by typhoon Yolanda.
Mayor Johnny De los Reyes, Councilor Danny Caballero, and the group of Public Information Officer Vincie Monterde who heads the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, immediately went to the area after learning about the residents’ plight.
The mayor’s group stopped at barangay Camp 4 for the reason that fallen trees blocked their path.
Santos’ team however made it to the place.
Meanwhile, a pregnant woman at the sports complex in Tabunok yesterday morning was taken to hospital.
When Caballero learned about it, he immediately called the Talisay Respond Emergency Action Team (TREAT) for assistance.
The police in Talisay City have created three search and rescue teams.
Senior Inspector Al Pascual, deputy chief of Talisay City Police Station told The Freeman yesterday that they created three teams of search and rescue last Thursday in anticipation of typhoon Yolanda.
Pascual said police personnel were sent Thursday to evacuation centers to assist the evacuees. (FREEMAN)
