Alayon to pick ABC bet from 5 village captains
CEBU, Philippines - Only five outgoing barangay captains identified with the Alayon party may be considered as candidates for the Association of Barangay Chairmen elections in Talisay City.
The list of captains includes Joel Orbiso of Jaclupan, Perla Cabanes of Tanke, Raul Cabañero of Bulacao, Delia Ybañez of Lawaan III and Maning Cabriana of Tabunok.
Whoever is elected president automatically becomes an ex-officio member of the city council.
First district Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam†Gullas said the next ABC president must be someone who is loyal to the party, competent, someone who is on his last term as barangay captain.
Outgoing ABC president Charles Basillote of barangay Dumlog, who was disqualified from running for captain in the last election because he is serving his third and last term, said the five captains are on the list.
“Kung basihan ang criteria nga last termer nga kapitan, silang lima mao gyud ang qualified,†Basillote said.
Basillote declined to endorse anyone, preferring to leave the decision-making to Alayon founder former first district congressman Eduardo Gullas and the core group of the party in Talisay to select the next ABC president.
Records in the last May elections show barangays Tabunok, Jaclupan, and Bulacao delivering good votes for the Alayon party.
Only Jaclupan delivered solid votes to the party but the barangay has only a population of 3,000 while Tabunok has 200,000.
The Alayon group captured an overwhelming majority in the last barangay elections, with 18 out of 22 candidates emerging winners.
Only barangays Lawaan I, Cansojong, San Roque, and Linao are identified with the administration of Mayor Johnny De los Reyes camp.
As of yesterday afternoon, Samsam and his grandfather, Eddie, former city councilor Rudi Cabigas, and city councilors allied with the Alayon met to discuss Basillote’s replacement. – (FREEMAN)
