CEBU, Philippines -  For overseeing four cemeteries round-the-clock, barangay tanods get free meals from the Talisay City government beginning yesterday until today.

Vince Monterde, head of tne Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LDRRMC), said at least 100 barangay tanods have been posted in public cemeteries in barangays Poblacion, Cansojong and Tangke, and in South Memorial Garden (Lawaan 1 and Mohon).

At least 20 tanods per shift are posted in these areas since yesterday morning, said Monterde.

Food is served in the morning, afternoon, and midnight â€to keep these folks going,” he said.

Meanwhile, as of 4 p.m. yesterday.

Monterde said no reports of untoward incidents inside the city’s cemeteries have been reported.

“Peaceful man. Wala pa man tay nadawat nga mga reklamo,” he said.

The tanods augment the peace and order force headed by the police, who are visible at entrances and exits of all cemeteries.

Monterde said the police are on their toes for 24 hours to maintain peace and order.

Monterde said the LDRRMC, the offices of Mayor Johnny V. Delos Reyes, Councilor Danny Caballero, and city administrator John Yre delos Reyes are open, albeit on a skeletal force, while the city commemorates All Saints Day and All Souls Day.  (FREEMAN)
