Talisay eyes heavy equipment trucks

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City will buy heavy equipment trucks.

With the help of heavy trucks, passengers of a van that figured last week in an accident in barangay San Isidro were saved.

A big slab of cement which fell from the second floor of a residential building landed on the van.

Seeing the situation the passengers were in, barangay San Isidro chief Marieta “Yeyen” Bucao asked for the use of trucks from private establishments in her barangay and from neighboring barangay Dumlog.

A passenger died in that incident.

Bucao was very thankful  to the private establishments for the help extended.

Bucao said she will ask Mayor Johnny De los Reyes to set aside a budget for heavy equipment trucks.

Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes was also in the area when the incident took place.

There, he realized the value of heavy equipment trucks.

Reyes said he will ask the city budget office to set aside funds for such next year.

He said the city should not rely on private establishments for such equipment.

“Kinahanglan gyud nga ang siyudad naa gyud nianang mga butanga, dili ta kanunay magsalig sa uban kay wala ta kahibawo kung gigamit ba nila ang ilang mga equipment,” De los Reyes said.

The mayor said the city as of now has a backhoe and dump trucks that are being used for road repair.

But the sizes of the vehicles are not perfect for use during calamities. (FREEMAN)
