Structural engineers from Manila inspect buildings in Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines - A three-man team from the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP) based in Manila yesterday completed their post earthquake structural inspection of four government structures in Mandaue City.

The team which arrived the other day from a separation inspection in Bohol inspected yesterday the Mandaue City Public Market, city hall, annex building, and the RTC building.

The national team is composed of Engr. Christopher Tamayo, chairman of Earthquake Quick Response Program (EQRP), Engr. Adam Abinales, past president of Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP), and Jhuztine Ramos, staff.

EQRP is a program of ASEP and Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE).

They were accompanied by past PICE-Cebu president Engr. Peter Dy and Mandaue City Engineer Dario Mago, his assistant Andres Suson and Engr. Roberto Ranile.

Abinales said that except for the city hall, the three other structures should be vacated due to major damages.

He said they will analyze the data they have gathered and make a recommendation before the end of this month.

Tamayo said their services are voluntary and therefore free of charge.

“This is our contribution,” he said. (FREEMAN)
